With air of ‘Let’s-do-it-again’, Trump lights up Broadcasters’ convention, woos Christians #NRB2024

With wins in the Republican Party’s contest for getting the primaries wrapped up in states like Iowa,
New Hampshire and Nevada, Mr. Donald Trump, former US President had the gait of a Colossus
bestriding the world as he marched onto the stage in Nashville, Tennessee where the National Religious
Broadcasters had its 80th anniversary Convention recently. It was just before the Republican’s primaries
scheduled for South Carolina.

It was another sure-footed walk before a group of people that his messages in his first coming to the
White House resonated with – the Christian broadcasters. Trump had a score card of accomplishments
to brandish before the Christian media all over the world, with even Africa being represented by
MDNTV.

Before anyone would doubt this, the former President had the following to show for his effort in the
four years that he presided over the affairs of the Oval office: outstanding record on abortion, religious
liberty and Israel. Recall that Trump was the one that recognized Jerusalem, not Tel Aviv as the official
capital of the nation of Israel, and moved the US embassy accordingly.

What Trump had done with abortion and religious liberty sounded like music in the ears of large number
of the participants in Nashville, the same ground to which President Joe Biden had been invited to make
a speech, but declined. It is obvious that President Biden was going to reaffirm the well-known
Democratic Party position on abortion and gender issues, and even if he would present them in different
garbs may really change nothing in the eyes of many broadcasters.

Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina and Trump’s fellow Republican on the presidential primaries’ trail also declined the invitation to the convention’s anniversary celebration. It was not unexpected since the Trump train continues to blaze through more primaries successfully.

Trump woos Christians

Nobody invites a politician of former President Trump’s caliber to a body of Christian media people that reaches millions of potential voters in an election season and expects less than he has dished to listening ears at the confab. In any case, it will be foolhardy for any candidate worth his salt to let opportunities slip through his hands, and Trump did the expected.

Mr. Trump aimed at getting the attention of Catholics in the audience to help drive home some of his
points, but it landed rather flat; very few identified as such. Not to be perturbed, he went for the chunk of his promise to potential voters, who were physically and virtually present.

Trump said, "And I will fight even harder for Christians with four more years in the White House. We did
things that, the likes of which nobody has ever done for Christians in this country. And I'm very proud of
that and honored by it. Just think of what, with God's help, we already achieved in our historic first term. " It was like squeezing honey from the honey comb, and went down well judging from the
applause it received.

Not done with the first salvo of promises, he said, "I will also take historic action to defeat the toxic
poison of gender ideology and restore the timeless truth that God created two genders, male and
female. I will keep men out of women's sports and I will sign a law prohibiting child sexual mutilation in
all 50 states."

Promising to give Christians the best if and when he comes into office, he pledged to form a new federal
task force to fight anti-Christian prejudice. In this, he reassured that no one will mishandle the cross of
Christ under his leadership. "I swear to you that will never happen,” he maintained.

At 77, Trump is involved in an exhaustive campaign amid tight schedules occasioned by battles in court
in New York over his business interests, Georgia, Florida and Washington DC in alleged criminal and
felony charges.

No doubt, his primaries’ triumphs in the run up to the Republican Party’s presidential nomination as flag
bearer do more than massage his sore muscles and offer relief from stress attendant to the quest for
glory being sought from the November 2024 US presidential election.

Mr. Trump had a field day at the convention being the only presidential candidate present to do his
thing, and he did.
