SECOND ANNUAL GBV AWARDS HONOUR CHAMPIONS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organization is thrilled to announce the launch of the second annual Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awards, an initiative aimed at recognizing and celebrating individuals, organizations, and initiatives that have made outstanding contributions to combating gender-based violence.
Gender-based violence remains a pervasive and alarming global issue, affecting millions of individuals each year. The GBV Awards were established to shed light on the relentless efforts of those working towards eradicating violence, promoting gender equality, and fostering safer communities.
This year's awards ceremony will take place on 09 March 2024 at Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace (Kempton Park, near OR Tambo), where recipients will be honoured in various categories, including:
- Best Male GBV activist
- Best Female GBV activist
- Best Police Officer dealing with GBV
- Best GBV Organization
- Best GBV Ambassador
- Community Builder of the Year
- Best Pastor Supporting GBV
- 8. Best Community Journalist
The motive behind these awards is to be recognizing an individual or organization that has significantly impacted local communities by raising awareness and implementing programs to address gender-based violence; acknowledging and recognising outstanding journalism, storytelling, or media campaigns that have brought attention to the issue of gender-based violence and influence positive change; to honour religious leaders and police service members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to advocating for victims and survivors of gender-based violence.
The winners will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges comprising experts and activists working in the field of gender-based violence prevention and support. Giving their voices to the cause, guest artists Andile Thabethe, Puleng March, Idols finalist Lungisa Xhamela, Mmatema and Williams Sejake and others will be performing on the evening.

About Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare:
Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organization is an NPO that offers shelter on a permanent, temporal and emergency basis for victims of GBV. The centre provides counselling, support, advocacy, skills development, and rehabilitation programmes with various social partners. These has been the basis of the existence of the organization from inception. Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organization was established in 2019 and to date it has served and housed over 155 victims of GBV. These includes women, children, youth, both males and females. Currently the shelter house 65 victims of GBV. These figures are too alarming to have in a society., as the organization we thought it correct to establish the yearly awards, to create awareness, encourages the broader community participation and advocacy around GBV, re-intergrate the victims by building confidence in them when they meet people in gatherings like this, honor champions from all walks of life that champions and advocates for GBV.
