Remembering the Life of a Renaissance Soul.

Earlier this afternoon I had the profound honor of attending the memorial service of an extraordinary individual Dr  Bishop Jessica Mbangeni ,whose impact transcended boundaries and touched hearts across continents. She was not only an acclaimed African Praise Poet but also a gifted musician, visionary designer, devoted mother and daughter. Her remarkable journey across the seven seas, coupled with her accolades and deep-rooted African heritage, defined her as a unique and cherished figure.

From her earliest performances to her later achievements, she captivated audiences worldwide with her evocative poetry and soul-stirring music. Her praise poems, rich with cultural resonance, earned her recognition from presidents and dignitaries, yet she remained steadfastly connected to her roots. Despite her global acclaim, she never lost sight of her identity as an African child, celebrating her heritage through every verse and melody.

Her creative genius extended beyond the stage. As a designer, she wove traditional African aesthetics with contemporary flair, creating pieces that spoke to both history and modernity. Each design told a story, reflecting her commitment to preserving and evolving African cultural narratives.

The memorial service was a poignant reflection of her life’s work and the indelible mark she left on those around her. Friends, family, and admirers gathered to honor her legacy, sharing stories of her warmth, creativity, and unwavering dedication. Her son  Njongo Mbangeni  recited a poem, her brother Sbu Mbangeni performed a tribute song.Thee award winning Vusi Nova performed the song that tugs at our heartstrings As phele langa.Living Legend Mama  Abigail Khubeka ,Dr John Kani, Dr Thebe Ikalafeng , poet , producer and actress Lebo Mashile were some of the impressive  assembly of industry peers in attendance of the memorial service. Her passing is a significant loss, but her influence will continue to inspire future generations.

Her life was a harmonious blend of global achievements and local devotion, making her a beacon of cultural pride and artistic excellence. As we bid farewell, we are reminded of the richness she brought to our lives and the lasting impact of her extraordinary contributions.
