Born on September 24th, 1987 Senzos’ remarkable story would be forever remembered in the history of sports. It captured the hearts of a nation. Tragically ended in an event that shook the Rainbow Nation.

Armed with a locally made ball, makeshift goalposts, and unwavering determination young Senzo honed his skills on the streets of his hometown. It didn't take long for Senzo's exceptional abilities to emerge. He joined soccer clubs where his incredible agility and lightning-fast reflexes earned him the nickname "Spiderman" among his peers. These formative experiences on the pitches of Umlazi served as the steppingstones to his ascent, in the world of football.
Senzo Meyiwa's journey, to success as a soccer goalkeeper in South Africa was truly remarkable. His exceptional goalkeeping abilities caught the attention of scouts propelling him into the spotlight of clubs. Orlando Pirates, a team in South Africa provided him with an opportunity to showcase his skills at a national level.
Wearing the white jersey of Orlando Pirates Senzos star swiftly rose. His incredible saves and unwavering dedication between the posts earned him a fan base and the respect of his players. Not only did Senzo excel at the club level. He also reached new heights in his career when he was appointed captain of Bafana Bafana, the South African national team in 2013. The relationship between Senzo Meyiwa and Kelly Khumalo was a controversial aspect of his life hidden beneath the dazzling lights of his football career. At the heart of this whirlwind was his connection with Kelly Khumalo, an African singer and actress.
The love story shared by Senzo and Kelly was both fascinating and tumultuous capturing the attention of the public and dominating headlines as celebrity gossip. Their union experienced highs along with lows marked by allegations of infidelity, public arguments, and emotional ups and downs that captivated the entire nation.
Despite their challenges, Senzo and Kelly's relationship brought forth their daughter Thingo who became a symbol of their love while also being a source of both moments and heartache.
Sadly, on the evening of October 26th, 2014, Senzo Meyiwas's life took a turn when he visited Kelly Khumalos's family home, in Vosloorus. A township located on the outskirts of Johannesburg. What started as a visit turned into a horrifying event that would have an impact, on history.
While Senzo was sitting with Kelly and her family, a group of intruders suspected to be about 7 in number, forcefully entered the house. In the ensuing chaos Senzo tragically lost his life due to being shot before any help could arrive. It was thought that the struggle was about protecting his woman from the intruders. This incident sent shockwaves throughout South Africa leaving the nation in mourning and sparking a call for justice.
The circumstances surrounding Senzo Meyiwa’s murder were surrounded by mystery and controversy as there were witnesses at the scene, including Kelly Khumalo and her family members. Despite these eyewitness accounts the investigation into Senzo's murder faced challenges, allegations of interference, and an outcry from the nation demanding answers.
It’s been 9 long years since his tragic death and although arrests were first made in 2021 of the suspects that was thought to be responsible for the shooting owing to eyewitness reports the call for justice is still unserved. The long court trials have not brought any productive fruit as court cases have been adjourned over and over. Yet families and friends and every lover of the footballing star that was cut short still await while the court proceeding continues.
